Stefan Kienberger
Geo-Spatial Analysis
Stefan Kienberger is an expert in geospatial analysis, giving our projects a sophisticated and data driven approach to understanding on-the- ground realities and responding through effective policies and development projects. His primary strengths are in developing integrated indicators to represent complex and multi- dimensional phenomena. Much of his work is carried out in the context of disaster risk reduction, climate change (adaptation) and the wider humanitarian context. He carries out applied research work in a range of African, Asian, Latin American and European countries.
In addition to working with Refugee Cities, Stefan is a senior researcher and project manager at the Department of Geoinformatics – Z_GIS at the University of Salzburg in Austria, where he leads the ‘Integrated Spatial Indicators’ research group. In 2015 he co-founded the spin-off company Spatial Services GmbH where he leads the section on ‘data2information’. He works on selected consultancies for the UN, European Commission as well as other research institutes and consulting firms.
Stefan holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Salzburg and an MSc in Environmental System Sciences – Geography from the University of Graz.
